“And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent”. (John 17:3, KJV). This scripture lays the foundation of what the Youth &Students’ Ministry at St. Francis Chapel stands for; that young people may receive eternal life, that they may know and have a personal relationship with God the Father, Jesus Christ as His Son, and trust and rely on Him completely as Lord and Saviour, and live the rest of their lives to glorify Him and make Him known to others.
Young people are the majority of the St. Francis Chapel. This Ministry has different fellowships that are split in the following categories;
Live Teens; these are teenagers between 13-18 years and most of them are in secondary school. They have fellowship meetings in their term holidays on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 2pm. The possibility of having a Teens’ Service on Sundays for them will be part of the discussion as we move into the new St. Francis Chapel. Live Teens also have an annual teen’s camp that takes place in January
Come Alive Family: every year the university receives first-year students and they are assigned fellowship groups that correspond with the year that they joined the university. These, later on, grow to become cell groups where leaders are nurtured, and young people are disciplined, and spiritual growth is fostered.
Heritage Family: this comprises young people that have graduated from the university, and are in a professional work environment. They fellowship monthly and help each other keep accountability even with the challenges of the new environment they are in. They also mentor their younger counterparts in their annual boot camp, and at an annual concert in October.
These contextual groupings go a long way in providing room for leadership, mentorship and belonging. However, in any one of the youth ministry activities, all fellowships will come together to accomplish any particular task from outreaches, camps, concerts and cells. If you are reading this and you feel called by God to be part of the youth ministry, the minister’s office is always open for you.
